Summer Lunch Programming for Underserved Youth

Summer Lunch Programming for Underserved Youth

Since 1997, Fairborn has offered a Summer Lunch Program for underserved youth. Lunch is followed by one hour of programming from community members and groups. The Ohio State University Greene County Extension Office has been providing 4-H related programming for 5 years. This year, four different sites (Osborn Park, Abiding Christ Church, East Elementary, and Wright Park) were made available to youth.

Approximately 200 underserved youth participating in the Fairborn Summer Lunch Program learned about nutrition, health and fitness, conservation, and gardening over a nine week period. The goal for this program is to provide a fun and safe way for kids to learn about 4-H type activities while developing a positive relationship with many caring adults. At the end of the summer, the children will have the opportunity to display their accomplishments at the Greene County Fair.
