OSU Extension programs provided strong volunteer service in Mahoning County:
Residents volunteered nearly 60,000 hours of service in 2006 as leaders for seventy 4-H youth development clubs and programs
Partnered with the Mill Creek Metroparks and offerred a Volunteer Naturalist training in 2006 that was attended by 13 individuals. Ten of the 13 individuals completed the course requirements and completed 350 hours of community service. This program was the first of its kind in the state of Ohio.
76 volunteers in the Master Gardener program contributed 2,187 hours of service projects in the communities of Mahoning County
In 2006, the 4-H Educator screened and trained 26 new volunteers to assist with the 4-H program in Mahoning County. An additional 370 hours of training was provided to 245 veteran 4-H volunteers to improve the effectiveness of their efforts.
