In Cuyahoga County, one in 14 residents has diabetes. Dining with Diabetes, a new program organized by the Cuyahoga County office of OSU Extension, has assisted 125 diabetics and caregivers of people with diabetes in learning research-based nutrition practices and self-management skills, with a focus on recipes emphasizing healthy cooking techniques. The program is so popular, organizers get more requests than they can fill. An estimated 800,000 Ohioans have diabetes, costing the state $9.4 billion annually.
