Teaching Kitchen

Teaching Kitchen

OSU Extension, Summit County, helped 917 Summit County residents to start some positive eating habits. These habits will help the participants to:

  • Lose weight
  • Lower cholesterol
  • Feel better overall

Our "Teaching Kitchen" demos, recipes, and handouts are a starting point to get people to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. The program's themes are:

  • Fresh local foods
  • Eating seasonal foods grown locally to improve your health
  • Support local farmers
  • Help the environment

Closing the gap programs helped over 1,305 Summit County residents to understand Dietary Guidelines. Many knew that they should be doing something more, but were unsure about the details. The programs provided by Extension helped bring things into focus for the participants by answering personal questions on Dietary Guidelines, the Food Pyramid, and Nutri-facts Label Reading.
