The Exurban Change Program

"Exurbia" is an emerging type of development on the outskirts of urban areas that is neither suburban nor rural. It is characterized as a settlement of low-density development with a mix of rural and urban land uses within the commuting zone of a large, urbanized area. Ohio State's Exurban Change Program analyzes economic, social, agricultural and land use change throughout Ohio's townships, the Midwest region, and the nation's exurban/rural landscape.
